Remembering my Dear Son Michael Herald Sutton / Elcelia Sutton (Mother)
May, 1966- February, 2007
--------------
“Oh the worst of all tragedies is not to die young, but to live until I am seventy-five and yet not ever truly to have lived” Martin Luther King Jr.
To live is to love and if you have never loved enough to die for someone or make others happy and taking the back seat, you have never lived - even at nine-five.
From May 1966- February 2007 is only forty years. Too short to gather the fruits of your labour. Too short to know retirement. Forty years is just too short.
From May 1966- February 2007 is only forty years. Yet it’s too long to be crippled by criticism, hatred and evil speaking. Too long to stand and worry about what the crowd thinks. Too long, forty is just too long.
From May 1966- February 2007 is only forty years. Yet it’s long enough to travel extensively all the way throughout Europe – US – Caribbean to accompany choirs, groups and bring music to the listeners’ ears. It’s long enough to spread God’s gracious love through music.
From May 1966- February 2007 is long enough to challenge the way we view music especially in our schools and churches. It is long enough to have lectures in the churches about how music will be in Heaven - sweet, melodious music. How music is not bad in itself but how it is used makes all the difference. Yes it is long enough. Forty years was long enough.
From May 1966- February 2007 is only forty years. Yet it is long enough to teach what genuine love is to all – not picking out whom to love, not by colour, race, wealth, religious background, nice looking or not as nice looking. It is long enough to share with the children in schools fatherly love and give help to young single mothers It is long enough. Forty years is long enough.
From May 1966- February 2007 was long enough to bring out the best in those around you. Yes your works speak volume. Forty years is long enough.
When we watch, listen and had a part in what Michael Herald Sutton did in forty years we know it was long enough for anyone who loved his God, country and people so much that life itself is not lived if you do not live for others. How good it will be if we all lived as well.
Michael Herald Sutton, like all others would have liked to live long. But I believe it is not how long one lives, but how well he uses the time given him.
And so Michael Herald Sutton we salute you in forty years for all you have done. It is like you lived for ninety years. We will honour the memory of a life well spent for forty years.

Until now I never could put into words all the emotions I felt after your homegoing. The last trip we took together, on impulse I video-taped you and I have looked at it with the shocking realisation that somehow you knew that God would take you home, when as we got on the plane among other things you were recorded saying you said "I'll see you in the great beyond"
We had plans for a our music which I will now have to complete without you - but I will complete them.
So many memories of traveling with you for ministry - the Lord opened some very interesting doors for us. Imagine that, two little people from a little place called Nevis in some big places.
Teaming up with you was God-ordained my friend. I'll do the solo piece while you play in heaven...Compose for me a song till I get there - don't worry about the lyrics, I'll bring those on my way up. I have peace knowing you have made it, obviously your mansion was ready before mine. Congratulations! Please don't be up there telling God you want no Triton keyboard, God got his own brand!! Close

Don't grieve too long for me, for I am now free, While it was quiet I turned my back and left it all. I'm on the path God laid for me, for I heeded his call. Now I wait to have it all for my father is rich in everything.
Wow- I'll C U Soon / Sharmin X. (Friend)
Michael was a really nice person to me. I'm sad that he passed, esp so suddenly. I just want to encourage his family to keep/put their trust in the Lord that someday they'll be reunited with him. I liked Mike a lot; for several reasons and i let him know too. I love music and enjoyed listening to him play. I loved being in his presence because he was HUMBLE and positive. To God I'll always be thankful for the friendship I had with him. Although I haven't been to camp in a while, I know it won't be the same without him. MICHAEL COULD REALLY TICKLE THEM IVORYZ. Family, friends, visitors to this site, remember Christ was willing to die for you, YOU should now be willing to LIVE 4 HIM @ did bro. Sutton. r.i.p. pal... so teary eyed but i gon catch u @ the feet of Jah!!! Promise Close

Teacher Cecil and family God is good. / David Jeffers
Our condolences to Teacher Cecil and family. I never heard Herald play his music, but I had the priviledge of talking to him while my father and him were both hospitalised a few years ago. The sad thing was my relative was 50 years Herald's senior and they were suffering from the same afflictions. My relative died and I did not like Herald's prospects. Fortunately he lived a few more years and I hope that there is a place in heaven for him. Only God knows why these things happen and leave us in such grief. God is good for he gave his only son for our sins. Keep holding on. Close

Well done faithfull servant / James Maynard (cousin in law )
We will never get used to the sudden loss of a love one. When I read in the paper that Sutton was found dead my first reaction was he did not die from a broken heart, and I hoped that they knew who saw him last and who found him, just incase there was foul play. Having read the autopsy report, I hope that the close family and Sutton had been preparing for the innevitable. Few realised that he was that sick, because he operated with such energy. He was such a genuine person and we are all saddened by his passing. Let God be our source of strength at this sad point of in lives.

Herald was health-conscious. We would walk the bay front 3 days per week. He encouraged me to drink soy milk. After protesting, that I don't want any milk that does not come from an animal, I relented - now I drink soy milk.
We teased each other about our weight. He would always say - "Fat people are some of the nicest people I know (then added with a chuckle)- for true". I 'll miss you Herald.
To the Sutton family - Take comfort in knowing that he is at rest.

Daddy sutton / Ryhana Wong (Music student and mentoree )
For the three years ive known mr. sutton, i was blessed. he was my mentor, my second father, my role model, my rock. At times i would call him just to hear him laugh, he would call me to find out about school and life was treating me. When i heard he passed away, i refused to believe, i cried uncontrollable, i tried to be strong for my mom who was a very close friend of his, but it hurt me to know i would not have that easy going, fun loving, dedicated, fun loving person we all know. Its a tragedy to know such an important, talented and loving man was taken from us, but we can be comforted knowing GOD only takes the best. I could go on and on about the times i had with daddy sutton. I LOVE YOU AND WILL FOREVER MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY PRAYERS GOES OUT TO THE SUTTON FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP U!!!!!!!!! I made a vow that from now on every performance i do will be a dedication to daddy sutton, because he was one of the few people who pushed me to excellence, i have not arrived as yet but im on my way just because of those few words, gestures and calls. R I P!!!!!!!! DADDY SUTTON, UR WORK SHALL CONTINUE Close

Michael, you were a giant in my eyes. I was there when you came out of the state of torpar (coma). Since then you've lived with pulmonate embolism, hypertention and other things. From experience the ordinary man would have died a long time ago. Despite all that you still carried on like a real gentleman. I've seen you perform on a Saturday and a Sunday for the saints and in the evening at a hotel's bar for the patron's, all with the same enthusiasm. Your body is now at rest, your breath is back with God and those whom you've met are better off having met you. Michael, you were a giant in my eyes.

Mr. Sutton / Venelle Powell (My Music Teacher )
when i heard that mr. sutton died, i thought that it was just some stupid rumor, but then later in the afternoon i got alot of texts and phone calls sayin the same thing. i didn't know what to believe but in my heart i knew it was true. Mr. Sutton was the best thing that happened to music in Nevis. Thats my opinion. I loved Mr. Sutton's music and when he played it was the best thing ever. I was in heaven but when he died it shocked and appalled me. i didnt want to believe it until i sae his body and the day i did, i cried like it was my mother. Mr. Sutton was a loved man. He was a very nice man, too nice to be real. He never let anything get to his head unless it was really serious. Mr.Sutton was my mentor, my teacher and my friend and for all i know......he still is.
Right now i would like to express my condolences to the family of Mr. Sutton. I feel and understand what you might be going through at this time and i would jus like to say that there will be no one else like Mr. Michael Herald Sutton.

To the family and relatives of Michael. Michael has left a legacy. Be comforted in knowing that his life was not in vain but that he has left his mark in this world. The breath has gone from his body, but he has left a part of himself that we all enjoy. Thank God that we can all listen to his music and be at peace. I know this is not easy on you but he shall also rise again. Be comforted by these facts. God knows best.
HERALD/ C. Hobson
The Hobson family of St Thomas USVI and St James Nevis wishes to express to the Sutton and Brandy family our deepest sympathy in the loss of Herald. He has left a good legacy and may God be the focal point as you deal with this sad event. Close

"Herald" what an appropriate name, "a person carrying out messages from a ruler."
Well, we all know who that ruler was that Herald an angel in our eyes worked so tirelessly for. We can see him now within his short period in heaven he already has a music room and a choir!!!
A musical icon is gone but not forgotten. We will forever be whispering at concerts etc... "if Herald was here."
